Former South African President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital, where he spent two nights.
The 92-year-old flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg on Wednesday for a check-up. His trip prompted concern around South Africa with schoolchildren writing messages of support to him (pictured).
However, a spokesman released a statement saying there was “no need to panic” and that Nelson is suffering “from ailments common to people of his age.”
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe referred to the president via his clan name and said: “Madiba is well.”
