Nails hands and feet: Use lacquer for longer-lasting nails

08 MAY 2008

Not everyone likes the look of painted nails – or can be bothered with the upkeep. But it's worth it for the protection polish gives.

We've tested the theory and nails definitely last far longer intact when they're covered with good-quality varnish. Left bare and they split down the sides with the slightest of pressure and flake at the tips, too.

Use a decent top coat and you only need reapply once a week at the most – worth it, surely, if it helps nails grow to a decent length. And varnish is offputting for nail biters, too.
