Scent selection: Be sensible with scent to avoid staining
02 DECEMBER 2008Most of us apply our favourite fragrance after we've dressed, yet alcohol in perfume can stain our clothes – especially if they're silk – and you may only notice the damage over time. Similarly, fragrances can react with sunlight to cause staining or skin irritation – on the décolleté, for example, which many of us douse with perfume and is usually most exposed to the light. To avoid this, apply scent before dressing, confining it to each wrist – don't apply to one and rub against the other as this can affect the way its molecules develop – the inner elbow, or behind the ears and knees. You can also spray it into hair or add to a cotton pad and place inside your bra, so the heat and pulse from the skin near your heart keeps it rising outwards.
