There’s nowhere quite like Miami’s South Beach, a magnet which draws celebrities, beautiful people and fun-lovers from all over the world. Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Michael Caine, Madonna, and J-Lo are just a few of the famous faces who've been spotted enjoying the area's cosmopolitan atmosphere, designer shopping, innovative cuisine, exciting nightlife, and fabulous beaches. Combine all this with supermodels, film crews, artists and literati, and you have the motley mix that feeds feverish South Beach its high energy level. This is the place to hang out with the in-crowd at the ultra-cool resort that’s a million miles from Mickey Mouse and the rest of Florida.
Coolest slice of coast
The ultra-hip know that when they visit
Miami, there’s only one place to see
and be seen. South Beach – SoBe to it
fans – is the headiest resort in the US, its
promenade a catwalk of pop stars, paparazzi,
poseurs, phoneys and models. Not to mention
the army of celebs who like it so much they’ve
taken over many of its hotels, restaurants and
clubs: Sean Penn, Mick Hucknall, Cameron
Diaz and Lenny Kravitz, to name but a few.
South Beach has little in common with the
rest of Miami, or Florida for that matter – no
cosy suburbia, no theme parks. Instead, the
tiny area sandwiched between Ocean Drive
and Washington Avenue, and 5th and 23rd
Street, is crammed with rollerblades and
Rolls-Royces, designer boutiques, more than
200 eateries, cafés, art galleries and clubs
pulsating with rock, rap and salsa. This place
has a bigger buzz than a giant hive of bees.
