Having recently added a second best-actress Oscar to her mantelpiece, Hilary Swank has been searching for some more decorations for her New York home. The 30-year-old, who has been enjoying some R&R in the historic city of Rome, was snapped taking a mosey around a local market.

Hilary jetted into the Italian capital to pick up the best foreign movie trophy at the David di Donatello Awards for her heart-rending drama Million Dollar Baby. She was joined at the glitzy event by Tinseltown heavyweight Tom Cruise, who went home with the lifetime achievement award.

While he used his trip to the Mediterranean country to promote his forthcoming flick War Of The Worlds, Hilary decided her time would be better spent relaxing. Dressing down in a light linen top and jeans, the performer was spotted taking a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets of the city.

They say that "Rome wasn't built in a day" and visitors to the Italian capital soon find it can't be explored in a day either. Small wonder, then, that its latest A-list visitor decided to stick around for a while to get to know the picturesque metropolis.

Among the most popular sights are the legendary Colisseum and the Pantheon. Whether you're interested in history, spirituality or architecture, a trip to Vatican City is also a must in order to see the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica - among the most breathtaking buildings in the world.

Hopeless romantics will want to follow in the footsteps of Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn by visiting the sites featured in their classic film Roman Holiday. A special tour offers movie fans the chance to see the Trevi Fountain, The Forum and, of course, the legendary "Mouth of Truth". Fifty years after the movie, the stone face carved into the portico of a sixth-century church is still one of city's most popular attractions. Legend has it that liars who put their hand into its mouth will get their extremities nipped off.
