Rest was what the doctor ordered, and Nicolas Sarkozy seemed to have taken that advice on board at the weekend as he and his wife Carla kicked off their annual summer break with a refreshing ocean dip.
With the pressures of presidency left temporarily in Paris, and his recent health scare behind him, the French president, 54, looked happy and relaxed as he swum around in the Mediterranean on Saturday.
At times, he was joined by his beautiful spouse for an intimate paddle together, before Carla, 41, retreated back to the rocky coast line to soak up the sun.
The former model's enviable attributes were apparent as she sunbathed in a skimpy black two-piece and a cream summer hat before sidling back down to the water's edge in a pair of flippers.
Nicolas, 54, and Carla arrived in Cap Negra on Friday for a three-week holiday during which the first couple are staying at a villa owned by the singer's family.
The start of their vacation was not the only reason to celebrate on Friday. The couple also learnt they are to become first-time grandparents following the news the politician's son Jean and his wife Jessica are expecting their first baby together at the end of the year.
Meanwhile the French public will no doubt be pleased to see their leader relaxing on holiday. Just one week ago, Mr Sarkozy was released from hospital after collapsing during a jogging session.
