Meryl Streep is mesmerising as the Iron Lady

14 NOVEMBER 2011

With the hair, the handbag and the authoritative tone, Meryl Streep has captured the unique aura of Margaret Thatcher.

Phyllida Lloyd, director of The Iron Lady - the biopic of the former PM - said the Oscar-winning actress had taken to the role with "astonishing ease and brilliance".

"I think Margaret Thatcher was a superstar in this country and I think we all felt we needed a superstar to play her, somebody of huge intelligence, passion and power and warmth".

Meryl visited Baroness Thatcher's old stomping grounds to unveil a poster for the film in London, just across from the Houses of Parliament.

See below the full trailer for the film that will be released on January 6.
