The hottest honeymoon experiences to sweep you off your feet

The hottest honeymoon experiences to sweep you off your feet, from wild and wonderful adventures to sun-drenched havens

The Island Gem: Bahama House

The stay: With its calamine-pink facade and playful-yet-polished interiors, Bahama House could’ve been plucked right out of a Wes Anderson classic. Seashell-encrusted mirrors hang in the halls, terraces are bedecked with plump-cushioned cane loveseats, and sinks are fashioned from huge, pearlescent conches. Couples can kick off their shoes and pad about barefoot; mooching between the palm-fronded pool and the Tiki Bar where Robert and Chris mix Goombay Smashes to a cheery calypso soundtrack. Or, play castaway on the quiet stretches of Pink Sands beach, combing for seaglass ‘til the cyan waves become all too enticing. There are parasols (assembled just for you wherever you please) to loll beneath, frosty bottle of Kalik in hand, and when the light begins to fade, you can bump back to the hotel in a golf cart, admiring Harbour Island’s candy-coloured abodes as you go.

The Wild Card: Explora Patagonia

The stay: For off-the-beaten-track action, this far-flung wonder in the Torres del Paine national park is just the ticket. Along with extraordinary hikes - crossing lenga forests and scaling snow-dusted ridges - some of the pulse-racing expeditions offered up will see you cantering across the Patagonian steppe on horseback, spotting condors, grey foxes and guanacos galore. And though soul-soaring itineraries are the main draw, the hotel’s light, airy interiors are a welcome sight after a day outdoors. Downtime can be spent in the view-toting hot tubs that dot the lake edge, or curled up in one of the fireside nooks with a glass of Chilean red. It’s mythical and magical all at once, with a remarkable out-of-this-world feel; and couples in search of adventure will find it here in spades.

The stars: Chilean Patagonia has impressed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Tropical Hideaway: MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa

The stay: Lapped by turquoise shallows, this all-villa stay on Mahé’s southwest coast is a masterclass in gentle luxury. High-ceilinged residences scatter the rocky granite hillside; away from prying eyes and seriously serene. Each one is fronted by a glistening wrap-around pool and inside, the cloud-like beds are near impossible to leave. From SPF upgrades when the mercury soars to petal-strewn soaks in the sunken outdoor tub, the can’t-do-enough-for-you butlers - assigned upon check in - take it all in their stride. Days begin and end with ambles along the powdery sand, the surrounding reefs teem with rainbow-bright shoals, and bountiful fruit platters are but a wave of the hand away. It’s all very laid-back yet at the same time, absurdly romantic.

The Homegrown Hero: The Connaught

The stay: There’s no denying the appeal of a brilliant staycation, and thus a honeymoon on home soil can be all kinds of terrific. Enter, The Connaught - an unabashedly British marvel in Mayfair’s beating heart. Here you have somewhere pleasingly old school with a real twinkle in its eye, and during your stay the two of you will want for absolutely nothing. Gourmet aficionados will be won over by the two Michelin-starred Hélène Darroze, the clever concierge can arrange all sorts - from theatre tickets to Hyde Park running routes - and in the Aman Spa there’s a stellar line-up of holistic therapies to succumb to. So cosseting are the suites - with their crisp, monogrammed linens and impossibly fluffy robes - that if the mood struck, you could happily stay put for a week without feeling even the slightest hint of cabin fever.

The stars: Poppy Delevingne and James Cook tied the knot in their home city.
