Ozzy Osbourne was laid to rest on Wednesday in his hometown of Birmingham, with a crowd of thousands watching as his heartbroken family paid their respects to the late rocker.

The Black Sabbath frontman passed away on July 22, surrounded by his wife, Sharon Osbourne, his children and his grandchildren. He had battled with Parkinson's disease for decades, and played his final concert just weeks before his passing.

Laid to rest

The heavy metal pioneer's body has been laid to rest in a coffin decorated with purple flowers that spelled out "Ozzy", with the hearse displaying a purple crucifix.

Sharon was distraught as she walked the streets of Birmingham at the head of the procession, with her children Jack, Kelly, and Aimee holding her hands in support.

Each of Ozzy's family members paid tribute to the Prince of Darkness in their own special way, as they donned everything from gold crosses to purple ties in memory of the patriarch.

The TV personality wore a pair of purple round wire-rimmed glasses, a look that Ozzy was famous for. She shared a touching tribute to her dad days after his death, posting lyrics from Ozzy's song "Changes".

"I feel unhappy I am so sad," she wrote on July 24. "I lost the best friend I ever had."
