Congratulations are in order for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who are officially engaged after more than two years of dating! The couple shared the news on social media with their fans through a set of photos capturing Travis' romantic proposal, the huge diamond ring he gave his now fiancée, and the beautiful floral setting in which it all went down. Their engagement post on Instagram also quickly went viral, attracting over 17 million likes in just a matter of hours.
Taylor and Travis, 35, quietly began dating in 2023 after the NFL star shot his shot during a podcast appearance saying he was attracted to her. After they were introduced behind-the-scenes, they carried on a romance that went public when Taylor attended one of his games with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," their engagement post was captioned, with a dynamite emoji at the end, a reference to their initials, T and T.
The post quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of likes in minutes between their combined nearly 300 million followers on Instagram. Speculation was rife about the couple's continuing relationship and how far it could go in recent months, especially following a spate of recent appearances together.
Taylor Swift's engagement ring
HELLO! can confirm that Travis worked with the jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck and Artifex Fine Jewelry to create the Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond. Celebrity jeweler George Khalife, AKA estimates the ring to be between "10-20 carats and the price could range from $1million to $5 million".
"This ring is a brilliant cut, and the style is called a bezel setting (that's the gold that wraps around the diamond)," George told HELLO! "It's super popular right now, just like yellow gold in general. Old Mine diamond[s] comes with a lot of history! The whole look feels really antique, which I think suits Taylor perfectly."
According to the Co-Founder and CEO of The Diamond Store, Jeremy Kanzen: "Taylor's engagement ring is a breathtaking blend of timeless romance and modern design. Featuring what appears to be an elongated cushion-cut diamond of 20 carats or more, it's set in a warm yellow gold rub over setting, which gives the stone a clean, contemporary finish while offering maximum protection."
Jeremy anticipates that the ring "will undoubtedly spark a surge in demand for yellow gold rub over-set rings."
Celebrity response
Celebrities quickly reacted to the big engagement. Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, shared the post to her Instagram stories writing: "Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two." Alyssa Milano commented on PEOPLE's Instagram of the engagement: "Gave me goosebumps." And tennis player Iga Swiatek, who is a huge Swiftie, said during an interview at the US Open: "I'm so happy for her, oh my God. She deserves the best."
Where did Travis propose to Taylor?
Comparison pictures of the listing of his Leawood, MO home, which he purchased in 2023, seemingly confirm that he proposed in the garden of their now-shared home.
The garden features a stone pathway with a wrought iron gazebo and matching chandelier, with two stone garden plant pots on each side of the entrance.
The engagement pictures show that the entire area had been decorated with pink roses and greenery, with Travis dropping to one knee outside the gazebo, and the pair also posing inside on the bench.
Travis' father Ed Kelce later shared that the two "were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'let's go out and have a glass of wine,' ... they got out there, and that's when he asked her." Calling the moment, "beautiful," he added: "They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."
When did Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift?
It is thought he proposed around two weeks before the reveal.
"Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago," Ed said in an exclusive chat with John Kosich. "He was going to put it off till this week."
When did they start dating?
The pair spoke candidly about their relationship during their maiden appearance on Travis' New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, going back to its genesis in 2023. "It's so funny. It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, 'I WANT TO DATE YOU!'" the "Cruel Summer" singer quipped on the episode. "At first, when I looked at it, I was like, this dude didn't get a meet and greet, and he's making it everyone's problem."
"You realize he didn't even reach out to our management? When the podcast came out, I was like, 'Did he ever reach out to be in the [VIP] tents?'," she continued. "He thought that because he knows the elevator lady that he could talk to her about getting to my dressing room," she added with a laugh.
Speaking of their more private romance, she continued: "We live in a day and age, I'm not an online person at all, I'm genuinely terrified to open my DMs, so this felt more like I was in an '80s John Hughes movie and he was standing outside my window with a boombox. If this guy isn't crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager."
In an interview with GQ, Travis equally revealed how much they were just "regular" people away from the prying eyes of the public. "Whenever I'm with her, it feels like we're just regular people," he gushed. "When there is not a camera on us, we're just two people that are in love."
"It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out," the Chiefs' tight end continued. "But I would say that it's as normal of… It happened very organically even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically."
