Enrique Iglesias was at a press conference in Mexico City to present his new Spanish-language album, Quizás, this week, but the conversation inevitably turned to the Latin star’s girlfriend, tennis diva Anna Kournikova.

The question which seemed to be begging an answer was in regard to rumours of the couple’s upcoming nuptials – talk sparked off by Enrique’s own grandfather Dr Julio Iglesias Puga, who reportedly hinted the Escape singer planned to tie the knot.

So is a wedding on the cards? “No,” replied the star with a laugh, explaining: “My grandfather is a joker. One day he says I’m getting married, the next he says I’m getting a divorce. He has his own sense of humour.”

However, it seems Enrique is a bit of a joker himself. The 27-year-old then insisted that Anna – his inseparable date at the MTV Video Music Awards in August – only accompanied him because she’s a friend and he didn’t feel like going alone. He followed the surprising declaration with a tongue-in-cheek warning that he usually lies when talking about his private life.
