The star sported a sophistocated look at the premiere of 'Me and Orson Welles'

A dapper Zac Efron leaves behind teen past with new film Although he was greeted by thousands of screaming girls at the UK premiere of his latest film on Wednesday, High School Musical star Zac Efron's most recent project is a move away from his Disney past.

Wearing a sharp black suit and tie, the twenty-two year old stepped onto the red carpet to promote Me and Orson Welles, in which he plays a young, aspiring Broadway actor in 1937.

Zac said that the more mature role attracted him because of its departure from his High School Musical character.

"It was different. That was a plus. That was exactly what I was looking for," he said.

"The role spoke to me," he added. "It was an awesome character and I could really connect with him."

Despite graduating from 'High School,' the heart-throb graciously signed autographs for fans of the popular films.

Zac admitted that he has never quite become used to the attention, but co-star Claire Danes, who plays his love interest in the film, said that she has grown accustomed to the fan frenzy.

"I get it because he is absolutely gorgeous," she added. "But more than that, he's a terrific actor."
