Pop diva Kylie Minogue and her longtime boyfriend, model James Gooding, have announced they’ve broken up after nearly three years together, instead deciding to “concentrate on their friendship”. A statement released from the singer’s camp on Thursday emphasised the break-up is a friendly one, reading: “They still love each other and it is an entirely amicable split.”

“I would quite simply not have made it through the past two years without the love and support that James and I share,” said Kylie. “This has been a very difficult and emotional decision to make, but we feel that it is appropriate at this time.”

A statement from James mirrored his ex-flame’s comments. “I feel we are both better people for knowing each other,” he said. “Kylie has been a wonderful influence in my life. She will always be special to me, but we both need time for ourselves right now.”

The Aussie star is in the midst of a UK tour, while James is currently preparing a photographic exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery in London.

The announcement came as a surprise to many in light of recent rumours of pending nuptials and a baby on the way. “Contrary to media reports there is and never has been any truth to the marriage, pregnancy or infidelity stories,” read the statement from Kylie’s representative. “Therefore, they play no part in this decision.”
