After a majestic display from the British monarchy that brought a million people out onto the streets for Prince William's glorious nuptials, the Dutch have also been showing their affection for Queen Beatrix and her family.
There was plenty of orange-themed fun – it’s the national colour – with circus performers and confetti in the southern town of Weert, which was the scene of the annual Queen's Day celebrations.

Tradition has it that the festivities, marking the monarch's mother's birthday, move to a different location every year, with Oranjekoorts or Orange fever taking over the town centre for a day.
And as always Princess Maxima, the queen's daughter-in-law, got a kick out of the lively atmosphere this year.
