Cheryl Cole removes wedding band for poignant Brit Awards appearance It was a show-stopping performance that earned a standing ovation and the biggest cheer of the night.

In the face of speculation concerning her private life, Cheryl Cole brought the audience to their feet at the 2010 Brit Awards with a sensational rendition of her hit single, Fight for this Love.

Her appearance at the awards ceremony was highly anticipated after reports emerged this week which put her footballer husband Ashley at the centre of newspaper scandal.

And while he wasn't at the star-studded Earls Court event, - he's currently laid up at home with a broken ankle - Cheryl still had plenty of support.

Cheering her along with the rest of the crowd were her Girls Aloud band mates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, and her beloved mum Joan.

For her two-part performance - the star's track was mixed with 1993 dance song Show Me Love for a brief interlude – Cheryl even managed to fit in a wardrobe change.

The beautiful brunette first appeared in a white mac and aviator glasses, before transforming into a sparkling black bodysuit.

Noticeably missing from both ensembles, however, was the 26-year-old's £150,000 wedding ring.

Its absence will no doubt remind fans of the last time she was pictured without her marital band - in the wake of Ashley's alleged infidelity in 2008.

But no matter what happens in her home life, the nation's sweetheart had a clear message at the Brits – when it comes to music, she is still very much at the top of her game.
