'Another one bites the dust' - Jamie is out as Jedward face fruity behaviour on 'X Factor'

Jamie Archer's X Factor journey came to an end this week when he was voted out of the competition by the public.

But he insists "it’s the beginning" when it comes to making it in the music industry.

"I just want to make a record and get out there and play," said Jamie as he departed the reality show – the first of Simon Cowell 's finalists to do so.

The 33-year-old – nicknamed Jamie Afro – found himself in the bottom two facing Lloyd Daniels, 16, in a sing-off.

With the judges split in their decision, it came down to the public to decide who to save – and Jamie was voted second best.

It did mean that twins John and Edward Grimes made it through another week.

And, reflecting their increasing popularity with viewers, they escaped having to singing for survival with a rendition of Under Pressure.

They were also praised for keeping their cool after Scottish electronic musician Calvin Harris bizarrely ran on stage during their performance clutching a pineapple to his head – reportedly to mimic the boys' quiffs.

On Sunday the hopefuls performed with rock royalty – Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor – for a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody.

They were later joined by the former finalists who have already left the competition this year, to sing Michael Jackson's hit song, You Are Not Alone, which has been released as a charity single.
