Oscar's resort line dazzles with 'touch-me' fabrics and bold prints

Sizzling citrus brights, sumptuous tactile fabrics and daringly bold prints were the order of the day as Oscar de la Renta presented his resort collection in New York this week.

Several highlights of the Dominican Republic-born designer's inter-season show drew on one of this summer's key trends - florals. Key among them was a long, full-skirted gown featuring a print of scarlet poppies against a background of yellow wildflowers.

Equally stand-out was an emerald green knitted tunic and silk satin palazzo pants teaming, which featured this season's ubiquitous high waisted, snug-at-the-hip, wide-in-the-leg cut.

Reinforcing the tactile theme was a strapless gown in aquamarine organza, the fitted bodice of which was offset by a rippling cascade of wavelet-style ruffles on the skirt. And a sizzling orange sheath in soft silk satin combined two themes - strong colour with touch-me texture - in a single garment.
