The pair found they had a love of music in common, often going to London gigs together. "When he died it was one of the hardest, most devastating experiences," the catwalk favourite told a British newspaper.

Working alongside the Brokeback Mountain star had motivated her to focus on a future career in acting, Lily added.

But before becoming a full-time thesp, the 20-year-old will take up her place to study history at Cambridge University.

Lily - who says she's "looking forward to meeting new people" after frequent solo trips to modelling assignments - is eschewing the usual student accommodation. Instead she plans to buy or rent a place of her own.
