Duffy and Coldplay lead Brit award nominees with four nods apiece

21 JANUARY 2009
Confirming her status as Wales' biggest international music export since Tom Jones, Duffy has racked up an impressive four nominations at this year's Brit awards.

Her chart-topping album Rockferry and hit single Mercy helped earn the 24-year-old songstress the nods in the best breakthrough act, best female solo artist, best album and best single categories.

Matching Duffy's four nominations are Coldplay. Chris Martin's outfit will go head to head in the best album category with the star - who's set to perform on the night and will be challenging Mercy with their track Viva La Vida.

Chris and his band mates will be up against Girls Aloud, Radiohead, Take That and Elbow for the title of best British group, and will also be hoping to walk away with the best British live act gong.

Other nominations for the Brits taking place on February 18 and hosted by James Corden, Mathew Horne and Kylie Minogue include Adele, with three nods, Leona Lewis, and Alexandra Burke - both up for best single - and Estelle.

U2, Girls Aloud and the Pet Shop Boys, who are this year's recipients of the outstanding contribution award, are among the performers taking to the stage on the night.
