Carey and Shia hook up in public for Cannes 'Wall Street' sequel photocall They're one of Hollywood's cutest couples, but they've never been ones to parade their relationship in front of the cameras.

And so it was on Friday as Carey Mulligan and Shia LaBeouf finally appeared alongside each other in public at the Cannes Film Festival to promote the movie that brought them together.

It was very much down to business for the young lovers, who shied away from posing together at the photocall for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the much-anticipated follow-up to 1987's Wall Street.

Carey, looking stunning in a purple short-sleeved dress and black open-toed heels, stayed one side of co-star Michael Douglas, while Shia, smart in a sharp grey suit, was on the other.

It was only in a group shot featuring fellow cast members Josh Brolin, Frost/Nixon star Frank Langella, Michael, and director Olive Stone, that the pair stood next to each other.

The couple first started dating back in August 2009, after Oliver introduced them ahead of filming.

They've since been snapped having fun on the streets of New York, but have avoided attending public events together.

After she was nominated at this year's Oscars, 24-year-old Carey brought along her mum to the star-studded ceremony as her guest.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps sees Michael reprise his role as unscrupulous investor Gordon Gekko.

After being released from prison 23 years after the events of the first film, he tries to rebuild his relationship with his estranged daughter, played by Carey, and brings her trader fiancé, who Shia portrays, under his wing.

The film is set to open in the UK in September.
