Gisele and Naomi say farewell to a dear friend in Paris

12 APRIL 2007

It was an emotional day for the fashion set when models, designers and style writers came together to remember one of the industry's leading lights on Wednesday. Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen was among those attending a service in the French capital for Steven Robinson, the designer widely regarded as John Galliano's right-hand man.

Clearly deeply-affected, the catwalk star kept her eyes hidden behind a pair of sunglasses, as did Naomi Campbell. The British modelling legend seemed equally moved by the loss, bestowing a warm hug on one friend outside The American Church in Paris.

Recalling their 20-year collaboration, the flamboyant Dior designer released a statement, paying tribute to "my rock and my dearest friend". "Working with Steven has been the greatest adventure and privilege of my career," he added.

Thirty-eight-year-old Steven passed away on April 5 after apparently suffering a heart attack in his Paris apartment.
